Crazy Weight Loss
Methods Through The Years
It seems that each year brings with it a new fad diet of
some kind—the one that promises to make you quick and effortless weight loss. These diets come
and go, yet for most, the fat stays. Why? Simple; it’s because diets really
don’t work and the ones that seem to don’t do it for the long haul…not even for
Oprah.
For anyone who struggles with weight, you’ve probably had a
good chuckle or two over some of the insane diets that have popped up over the
years. Some are so ridiculous that it almost makes you cringe to think that
you’ve gone there too! In honor of those who have fought with weight or are
still fighting the battle of the bulge, I thought it would be nice to go over
some of the most cockamamie diets that have come and gone over the years. We
could all use a good laugh and a dose of reality to take us to the realization
that there is no quick fix AND there is nothing about living on tea for weeks
that is easy, effortless or necessary!
The Master Cleanse:
Geez. I admit that Beyonce looked incredible after using this diet to quickly
drop 20lbs for a film, but come on! You live on a drink that consists of lemon
juice, bottled water and pepper for about 10 days…ick.
The Cabbage Soup
Diet: This one had many women and men a like running to the toilet praying
to the poop gods to put them out of their misery from the gas and diarrhea
induced pain! Lots of runny cabbage soup, one day that consists of throwing in
some bananas and milk and you’ve promised yourself a day or two spent on the
crapper!
The Israeli Soldier
Diet: This one was popular when I was still too young to care that my butt
was less than perky and my belly softer than a bowl of jelly—probably for the
better though since it involved eating all you could of one type of food each
day. Fat chance unless that food is candy or chocolate!
The Steak and
Grapefruit Diet: Here’s another gem. This one is based on the premise that
the combination of the protein from the steak and the ‘fat burning’ abilities
of the grapefruits will cause you to drop a bunch of weight really quickly.
Really? Nowhere did the diet specify that the meat should be super lean and NOT
slathered in butter or gravy.
If I had more time I could surely fill up dozens of pages
with ridiculous combinations that promised the world, but I hope these will do
for now. When it comes to diets, you need to believe that if it sounds too good
to be true, that’s because it is! Another saying; if it walks like a
duck...meaning that if it sounds ridiculous…well… you know the rest. There is
no quick fix so why not laugh at the diets that claim to be so.
